My name is Sugar and I am a Singer Slant-O-Matic Fanatic

I love, love, LOVE my Singer Slant-O-Matic 503A. His name is Sinclair.  And we have been together for 3 years now.

We met at a yard sale. At first we were just casual acquaintances. But I got to know him better and now we are MORE than friends.

I have been collecting attachments and bits and pieces for him for a couple of years.

And I'm only a teensy bit obsessed.

  1. Eva, I too am a sewing machine fanatic. We owned a sewing machine store in CA many years ago. I am always on the lookout for vintage machines. This weekend I really found a deal at our local Deseret Industries (DI), thrift store. I have been eyeing the 503A for a couple of weeks. It was priced reasonably at $40. Missing the front slide plate & has no attachments with it. Does have the beautiful sewing cabinet though. Well, long story short, I dropped by the DI yesterday & it was marked down 50% TO $20. Still, I had to think about it. I have a few machines in cabinets which are taking most of my available space. Well, the manager finally came up to me & asked me if I wanted to buy the machine & he was going to mark it down one more time. He hit me with $10. SOLD! I have ordered the front slide plate & 10 bobbins so for under $20 for the parts I have a beautiful machine. I will collect attachments over the next couple of years. Nice to meet another fanatic!

  2. I am needing a walking foot for my 503A, just got it back from the shop for a cleaning and greasing. Can't wait to sew with it! It was given to me by a very good friend. Where do yo get parts for yours? I found some on ebay, and just wondering if that is a good place to get them. Thanks for you help :)

    1. Sue Ann, I am so excited for you! What a wonderful gift!
I find most of my attachments at thrift shops. I have had a lot of success getting things on ebay. Just be sure it's really for a slant shank machine and you should be set.
Another note, I have both a generic brand walking foot for my 503A and a genuine Singer walking foot and I have been a little happier with the genuine Singer foot. But I may be a little biased...
      Happy Sewing!!!

  3. I am in need of a handbook for this same model. My mom had one when I was young, and a dear friend gave me the same model in pristine condition without the book. Do you know where I can find one?
